Lectio Divina Bible Study- Each Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
Lectio Divina is a contemplative practice, offering us a way to connect with scripture and to learn to hear God’s message for us through that scripture. Each Tuesday from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. we’ll gather in the sanctuary for the practice, using verses from the following Sunday’s lectionary. We’ll begin in silence, hear the scripture in several translations, spend time journaling individually, and then share insights at the end of our time together.
Frequently-Asked Questions:
- Is Lectio Divina a Bible study? Not in the traditional sense where you might gather as a group to discuss the meaning of different passages. But you do spend time hearing, reading, and journaling about a specific passage each session. There’s also time for some discussion at the end of each session, but that’s primarily to share what spoke to you from the passage. This is a contemplative practice rather than time for teaching and instruction.
- Is there homework outside of each session? There’s no homework or prep required, but you may want to revisit the passage of the week and your thoughts and reactions in your journal throughout the week.
- Do I need to commit to being there each week? It would be great if you would, but because it’s not like a traditional Bible study, you may come when your schedule allows and miss when your schedule requires you to miss.
- What do I need to bring with me to a Lectio Divina session? Your Bible and an open mind and open heart to hear what God wants you to hear in the verses we read. We’ll provide a pen and journal, but you’re also welcome to bring your own.
A sign-up form is available in Breeze to help us know how many to expect, but you may also show up for any of the evenings without registering. All are welcome!
