6th Annual visiting scholar series

You are invited to attend our 6th annual Visiting Scholar Series. For 2023, Rumple welcomes Visiting Scholar, Dr. Brennan Breed. The theme for the weekend will be “A Covenant with God: A Religious and Political Revolution.” For each session, excluding worship on Sunday, refreshments will be served 15 minutes before the session begins.

Sunday, September 24th
9:30AM – Q&A with Dr. Breed facilitated by Dr. Davis Hankins in the Fellowship Hall
11:00AM – Sermon in Worship, “With Us, the Ones Living Today”
4:30PM – “Dynamic Torah: The Blessing of God’s Law and Covenant” in the Fellowship Hall

Monday, September 25th
9:30AM – “The Impact of God’s Covenant with Israel through the Centuries” in the Fellowship Hall

Dr. Breed serves as Associate Professor of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary and Theologian-in-Residence at First Presbyterian Church of Marietta. He earned a BA from the University of Virginia, an MDiv from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a PhD from Emory University. Brennan is the author of the book, Nomadic Text and co-author of Daniel: a Commentary with Carol Newsom. Brennan is currently writing a book about the history of the early Hellenistic era in Israel with Rumple member, Dr. Davis Hankins.

Brennan lives in Decatur, Georgia with his wife, Catherine, their two children, Freddie and Margaret Ann, and their two miniature schnauzers, Shadow and Zuzu. Brennan loves hiking, cooking, reading, and teaching bluegrass and old-time fiddle, mandolin, and banjo.
