Bible/Book Studies
Rumple offers Bible studies and other book studies throughout the year. The study leaders vary, but have included our pastors, church members, theologians, and other expert leaders.
Some of our studies are one-time while others stretch out over several weeks. Some studies are in-person and others are available via Zoom and archived on Rumple’s YouTube Channel.
If you enjoy learning, reading, and discussing the Bible and other books, we hope you’ll join us for a future study. Watch for announcements in our weekly e-newsletter, the Slate and Stone.
Current Studies

Join us this winter for a walk through the Bible and Art with Rumple’s own Davis Hankins, Associate Professor at Appalachian State University of Religious Studies, and Director of the Center for Judaic, Holocaust and Peace Studies. Gather with us each Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m., till March 1, in person, in room 3 in the Education building or by Zoom for this engaging series. Even if you missed a few classes, it’s not too late to jump right in.
Davis describes the class in these words: “Art has been a primary medium for Christians’ encounters with biblical texts and characters over the centuries.”

Kathy will lead a small group study on Marjorie Thompson’s classic book on spiritual practices, Soul Feast: An Invitation to the Spiritual Life, on Thursdays during the season of Lent. The group will begin on Thursday, February 19, in the Youth Room, level 1 of the Cannon Education Building. Participants are asked to sign up on Breeze, here, and order their own book. Please order the newly revised edition published in 2014.

Join us for a new program beginning in Lent, Lectio Divina. Lectio Divina is a contemplative practice, offering us a way to connect with scripture and to learn to hear God’s message for us through that scripture. Beginning, Tuesday, February 24, and each Tuesday following, at 7 p.m., we’ll gather in the sanctuary for the practice, using verses from the following Sunday’s lectionary. We’ll begin in silence, hear the scripture in several translations, spend time journaling individually, and then share insights at the end of our time together. The first session will provide more information about Lection Divina, and subsequent evening practices will last about 45 minutes. A sign-up form is available in Breeze to help us know how many to expect, but you may also show up for any of the evenings without registering. All are welcome! Please contact Hope Squires with any questions.
